2 motorcyclists killed in accident on Freeway 5 in Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. (KABC) — Two motorcyclists were killed in an accident on Freeway 5 in Irvine overnight, authorities said.

It happened shortly after midnight in the northbound lanes, just south of Culver Drive.

Details of the accident are limited, but witnesses said the two motorcyclists were traveling in a large group on the highway. All northbound lanes were closed for about four hours before reopening.

While officers were at the scene of the accident, another driver rear-ended a California Highway Patrol vehicle.

It is unclear whether anyone was injured or whether there were any arrests.

In a video obtained by Eyewitness News, a person is seen being arrested for allegedly failing a breathalyzer test. The footage also shows a CHP vehicle with visible damage.

Both incidents remain under investigation.
