Novak Djokovic calls for “clear protocols” after the anti-doping case against Jannik Sinner – “Many problems in the system”

Following the controversy surrounding world number one Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic is convinced that there must be “changes” to the current approach to doping cases in tennis.

Djokovic believes there are “many problems” in the current system and would like to see “standardized approaches” in the future to avoid similar incidents.

“As far as I understand, his case was basically settled the moment this was announced,” Djokovic said in the aftermath of Sinner's case.

“But I think five or six months [had] passed since the message [of the positive tests] was delivered to him and his team.

“Yes, there are many problems in the system. We see a lack of standardized and clear protocols. I can understand the feelings of many players who wonder if they are being treated equally.

“I have done nothing wrong” – Sinner relieved after acquittal in doping test

“Hopefully the governing bodies of our sport can learn from this case and do better in the future. I think there needs to be collective change.”

Both Djokovic and Sinner will travel to the US Open in the coming days to claim the crown at Flushing Meadows, while Carlos Alcaraz will try to reclaim the title he won in 2022.

“I think there is some information 'behind' it that many people don't know, and I include myself in that because I don't know it,” said the world number 3.

“It's very difficult to talk about it. His test was positive, but there were some reasons we don't know that allowed him to play.”

“I can't say much about that. Ultimately, he was innocent, or they think he is innocent. That's why Jannik will take part in the tournament and there's not much else to say.”
