A solo leveling anime fight showed Jinwoo's skills better than the manhwa

Summary

  • Jinwoo's dependence on potions and weapons is controversial among fans and critics of Solo Leveling.
  • The anime adaptation offers more context and details about Jinwoo's victories compared to the manhwa.
  • Jinwoo's unique approach to fighting shows his intellectual nature and survival instinct and strengthens his character.

Despite his popularity and great recognition, Single levels is not without criticism. Some of the most common criticisms revolve around the protagonist – Sung Jinwoo. His unparalleled ability to succeed, some fans believe, belies personal issues that would otherwise cause someone less fortunate to lose. However, the anime does a better job than the manhwa to dispel at least some of the criticism of Jinwoo, which becomes particularly clear in an early but decisive fight.

A notable criticism of Jinwoo is that his Excessive reliance on overpowered weapons and potions undermines his credibility as a hero, which is the central premise of the story. Essentially, critics argue that Jinwoo's success is not due to his own skills and powers, but the result of external factors – the broken weapons and broken potions – that do the work for him. Without these advantages, he would likely fail.

For example, Jinwoo manages to defeat B-rank hunter Kang Taeshik, one of the most experienced hunters at this level. Jinwoo succeeds in doing this mainly thanks to a skill buff he received from his teammate Joohee, the Bloodlust ability, and his enchanted dagger Kasaka's Fang.

Jinwoo's dependence on magic and weapons is controversial

According to his critics, it is unlikely that Jinwoo would have survived Kang's attacks without the help of these potions and skills. However, the critics overlook a key factor in his development before his encounter with Kang. In fact, Jinwoo’s previous dungeon duel against Cerberus, the three-headed demon dog that serves as the guardian of the gates of hell, provides ample evidence that Jinwoo is more than just magical items and spells.

Jinwoo begins his fight with Cerberus in his usual situation – outnumbered and outgunned against a superior enemy. In fact, Jinwoo, who has just begun his new path to glory, enters his fight against Cerberus with an important magical item – a transport stone that can instantly transport him out of the dungeon when activated – and a number of other “medium” weapons and “perks”. Now, just looking at the fight from Chapter 27 of the manhwa, there is little to argue against the idea that Jinwoo couldn't have defeated Cerberus without his perks.

The Solo Leveling anime improves the narrative by filling in the gaps left by the manhwa.

However, the anime adaptation (Episode #7) provides more context and details to Jinwoo's victory over his superior opponent, unlike the manhwa. In the manhwa, the fight is short and does not fully show Jinwoo's actions that led to his victory. In contrast, The anime offers a more detailed depiction of the battle. For example, we see that Jinwoo's initial attacks against Cerberus are ineffective. Furthermore, when Jinwoo realizes that he cannot win, he tries to escape the dungeon using the transportation stone, but Cerberus knocks him away at the last second.

In the face of certain death, the anime shows how Jinwoo uses his knowledge of the game system and his experience to find a truly unique solution. This shows that while Jinwoo is not the strongest, fastest, or most powerful hunter, he is probably the most intelligent. His actions are guided by a variety of experiences, all centered around his survival instincts, which he knows to be effective. The use of magical weapons, potions, and buffs is simply a bonus.

Thanks to the Single levels In the anime adaptation, Jinwoo is presented with a depth and complexity that the manhwa only touches on. In fact, the anime resolves one of the main criticisms against Single levels Man, man. Jinwoo is a unique individual, a hunter with a completely different power dynamic that no one else in the Single levels Universe has been fully understood.
