INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – An Indianapolis man is facing attempted murder charges for his involvement in a shooting on the east side of the island that left a woman and her child injured.

Jerimiah Eldridge, 21, was taken into custody by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department for his connection to the shooting Saturday morning.

According to IMPD, officers were dispatched to the 6100 block of East 21st Street shortly after midnight Saturday for a report of a person being shot. This is a residential and commercial area near North Arlington Avenue.

When they arrived, they found the two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. IMPD reported shortly after the shooting that they were considered “awake and breathing.”

IMPD could not provide the exact age of the woman or child. Officials did not say what led up to the shooting or whether Eldridge knew the victims.

The Marion County District Attorney's Office is expected to make the final decision on charges.
