Morgan Academy Football Caden Tellier: SELMA, AL – The tight-knit community of Morgan Academy is mourning the tragic death of Caden Tellier, a 16-year-old quarterback whose promising life was cut short by a severe brain injury sustained during a high school football game. Tellier died on August 24, 2024, one day after sustaining the injury during a home game against Southern Academy.

Tellier, a popular figure at Morgan Academy, was injured in the third quarter of the game on August 23. The game was immediately halted while medical personnel rushed to his aid and transported him to UAB Hospital via helicopter. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, Tellier's condition remained critical and he eventually succumbed to his injuries the next day.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, his parents expressed their gratitude for the community's overwhelming support and prayers. “Our boy, Caden Tellier, has come to know Jesus face to face. We appreciate all of your prayers and ask for them for the difficult days ahead,” the message said. The family also noted that through the donation of his organs, Tellier's legacy of kindness, generosity and love will live on and save lives even after his death.

Dr. Bryan Oliver, principal of Morgan Academy, described Tellier as a shining light within the school, emphasizing his deep faith and the positive impact he had on those around him. The Alabama Independent School Association (AISA) has asked for prayers and support for Tellier's family and the Morgan Academy community during this difficult time. AISA Executive Director Michael McLendon emphasized the need for collective comfort and solidarity as the community processes this tragic loss.

Morgan Academy has decided to suspend all school activities for this week to allow students, staff and the community to come together in remembrance and support.
