Coroner identifies man killed in earthmoving truck crash on I-680 near Sunol

A man killed in a traffic crash last week on Interstate 680 between Fremont and Sunol has been identified by the Alameda County Coroner's Bureau as Eduardo Tovaraleman, a 37-year-old resident of Los Banos in Merced County.

According to the California Highway Patrol, around 6:30 a.m. on August 20, Tovaraleman was driving a 1992 GMC Sierra pickup truck in the northbound lanes of I-680 north of Sheridan Road when he collided with the rear of a Peterbilt three-axle dirt hauling semi-trailer.

After the impact, Tovaraleman's truck left the highway and drove up an embankment, the CHP said. It struck a tree and a streetlight and came to rest on its roof. Tovaraleman's truck was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other injuries were reported, according to the CHP.

The accident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Dublin CHP office at 925-828-0466.
