Kolkata rape and murder case: CBI conducts lie detector test on main accused, carries out searches at several locations in Kolkata

As part of the ongoing investigation into the rape and murder of a young doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday completed the lie detector test of main accused Sanjay Roy.

The CBI also conducted searches at several locations in Kolkata, including the house of former government hospital director Sandip Ghosh, in connection with alleged financial irregularities during his tenure at the medical facility.

The polygraph test on Sanjay Roy was conducted in the Presidency Jail in Kolkata, where he is being held. Sandip Ghosh was subjected to the polygraph test on Saturday. A special court in Kolkata allowed the CBI to conduct the polygraph tests in connection with the brutal rape and murder of the young doctor.

Notably, the Calcutta High Court on Friday ordered the transfer of the investigation into alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital from a Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the West Bengal government to the CBI.

The state government recently set up the SIT to investigate alleged financial irregularities at the hospital where the body of the on-duty junior doctor was found on August 9.

During the hearing, the Supreme Court attacked the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government, asking why the SIT was set up a year after allegations of financial irregularities at the hospital first surfaced.

The SIT was set up by the state government at a time when the CBI was conducting its investigation into the rape and murder of the 31-year-old doctor.
