Famous doctor of Indian descent shot dead in US state of Alabama

Dr. Peramsetty hails from Tirupati district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh and was the founder and medical director of the Crimson Care Network, a group of local medical practitioners.

On Friday, a doctor of Indian descent was shot dead in the city of Tuscaloosa in the US state of Alabama. Dr. Ramesh Peramsetty, a renowned doctor who headed several hospitals in the country, died on the spot.

A native of Tirupati district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Peramsetty was the founder and medical director of the Crimson Care Network, a group of local medical practitioners. He was highly respected for his contributions to health care and practiced medicine in Tuscaloosa.

The Crimson Care Network team expressed sadness over the doctor's death and said they will continue to honor Peramsetty's legacy. In a Facebook post, Crimson Care Network said, “As many already know, we have been informed of the passing of Dr. Ramesh Peramsetty. The Peramsetty family asks that we grant them privacy in their grief. They have received an abundance of love and trust. We will continue to honor him as he would have wanted us to. Thank you for your understanding.”

“Please continue to think of and pray for the Peramsetty and Crimson Care Network family as we navigate this difficult time. Our team is prepared to make further statements in the coming days. We will continue to honor his legacy. Our clinics will remain open during the transition,” it added.

Who was Doctor Peramsetty?

According to his Wedmed page, Dr. Peramsetty graduated from Sri Venkateswara Medical College in 1986 and had 38 years of medical experience. He specialized in emergency medicine and family medicine and practiced in Tuscaloosa and four other locations. He was also affiliated with the Regional Medical Center and held a Diploma in Child Health (DCH).

In addition to his medical work, Dr. Peramsetty donated Rs 1.4 million to Menakuru High School in Andhra Pradesh, where he studied, and contributed to the construction of a Sai temple in his village, according to the NDTV report.

According to some local reports, a street in Tuscaloosa was named in honor of Dr. Peramsetty because of his key role in the medical field. Dr. Peramsetty also played a crucial role during the Covid-19 pandemic, for which he received several awards. He leaves behind his wife, two sons and two daughters, all of whom live in the United States.
