New PS2 release on PS5 brings major disadvantages

The new TimeSplitters ports are not perfect yet.

The latest PlayStation 2 re-releases on PS5 and PS4 platforms have one notable drawback. Last week, Sony moved the entire TimeSplitters franchise to Time fragments, Time fragments 2And TimeSplitters: Future Perfect on modern PlayStation consoles. These new versions of all three TimeSplitters entries have been highly requested by fans for many years, so the mere fact that they are now available in this way is a huge win. Unfortunately, however, publisher Deep Silver has re-released these TimeSplitters titles with one key feature missing for the time being.

Unlike many other PS2 games that have recently been released for PS5 and PS4, Time fragments, Time fragments 2And TimeSplitters: Future Perfect all have no trophy support. This is something that has been seen in other “PlayStation Classics” that have been released in the past, but it is still a rather rare occurrence, especially compared to other PS2 titles such as Summoner, Sly Cooper and the Thievieus Raccoonus, And Tomb Raider Legend that launched this summer. As for the reason for this lack of trophies, Deep Silver has not provided an explanation, but has made it clear that this probably won't be the case for long.

In a statement to a PSN Profiles user (via Push Square), a Deep Silver representative said that trophies for all of these TimeSplitters games were “under consideration” and “should be available in a future patch.” It's currently unknown when this update might be released for all three titles, but the fact that it's coming about at all is great to see. Still, the fact that there are no trophies available from the start for this return of TimeSplitters might put a damper on the re-release for avid trophy hunters.
