Harlem man shot and injured in brazen shooting in broad daylight

A man is recovering in the hospital after being shot in Harlem on Sunday afternoon, authorities confirmed.

The 29-year-old man was sitting outside 152 7th Avenue at about 12:46 p.m. on August 25 when a gunman on a black scooter sped up from nearby 118th Street, police sources said. The gunman then stopped on 7th Avenue and opened fire.

According to police, the shooter fired at least three shots as the victim tried to escape. However, this attempt was unsuccessful as the 29-year-old was hit in the right buttock and suffered a graze to the head.

The victim eventually collapsed in front of an apartment building at nearby 158 7th Avenue. Meanwhile, law enforcement sources said, the gunman sped east from the scene on his scooter along 118th Street.

Officials of the 28th District responded to the incident and closed the street while emergency personnel transported the victim to Harlem Hospital. He was listed in stable condition.

Three discarded cartridge cases were scattered on the sidewalk.

No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.

According to the latest CompStat report, there were eight shootings in the 28th Precinct through August 18. That's one more shooting than the total during the same period in 2023. Aggravated assaults increased 19.1% in 2024, with 191 incidents reported, compared to 160 the previous year.
