Tekken fan shows what a fight would look like

Key findings

  • It's no secret that Tekken's King of the Iron Fist tournament is one of the coolest in-game fighting game tournaments of all time.
  • And if you've ever wondered what it would be like to actually be a spectator at this tournament, one Reddit user has put together a unique video that shows just that.
  • The front row video shows a real Tekken fight, complete with ambient crowd noises from past Evo events.
  • The video offers a fascinating insight into what viewers experience in the game when gamers compete against each other.

As far as fighting game franchises go, there are few things as cool as Tekken's King of Iron Fist tournament. Of course, Mortal Kombat has its own battles between the various realms and Street Fighter has its own tournament, but the King of Iron Fist is unbelievably awesome.

After all, what tournament has a ton of money on the line, as well as control of the Mishima Zaibatsu? Granted, you might have to face a devil fighter and Eddy Gordo might launch you into the next dimension, but the prizes are well worth participating in.

However, for as long as Tekken has been around, players have taken control of a fighter. However, the King of Iron Fist tournament actually has spectators who pay to watch these fights. And if you've ever wondered what it would be like to be a spectator, one Tekken fan has put together a mashup of what it might look like.

A front row seat may not be the best idea

On Reddit, user yanos626 has put together a first-person perspective that shows what participating in the King of Iron First Tournament might look like.

Listen:

As you can see, things are pretty intense and, quite frankly, a little scary. Again, this is just basic hand-to-hand combat. Imagine what it would look like if Alisa used her rocket arm or Nina Williams pulled out her gun? As one user put it, “It's all fun and games until you see Kazuya fighting and he hits half the audience with a laser.”

The developer didn't stop there though, as if you turn up the volume you'll hear various reactions and crowd noises, all taken from real Tekken and Evo events. Again, this is an incredibly awesome project that explores an unexplored area of the franchise – the fans who pay in-game money to watch this tournament.

If virtual reality advances enough in the future, gamers may be able to experience things in real life, but for now, we're keen to check out as many of these games as possible.
