Santa Maria man arrested after violent incident

SANTA MARIA, Calif. – Santa Maria police have arrested a man after police reported an incident of road rage that turned violent.

According to SMPD, officers attempted to get the 34-year-old suspect to comply, but the man later armed himself with a metal object and smashed the windows of a CHP car.

Multiple agencies attempted to de-escalate the situation, but the man continued to ram his car into other vehicles at the scene, SMPD reported.

The 34-year-old later got out of his car and approached officers before being tracked down with the help of a sniffer dog, the SMPD said.

According to SMPD, after the five-hour standoff, SMPD arrested the man for vandalism, resisting police with violence and assault with a deadly weapon.
