71-year-old motorcyclist killed in accident on Highway 224 near Estacada

CLACKAMAS COUNTY, Ore. (KPTV) – A man was killed in a crash involving a car and a motorcycle on Highway 224 near Estacada in Clackamas County Saturday afternoon, according to Oregon State Police.

Shortly after 12:30 p.m., police responded to the accident at mile 25.

According to police, the accident occurred when a 55-year-old man from Estacada attempted to turn left into a driveway in a red Ford Focus. The motorcyclist, 71-year-old Richard Lee Detherage of Silverton, was driving a black Harley Davidson in the opposite direction.

According to police, the Focus crashed into the motorcycle. Rescue workers attempted to save Detherage's life, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Traffic on Highway 224 was disrupted for about three hours, police said.
