A blue Kenworth K100E owned by Victorian owner and driver Chris 'Billy' Keene has more than three million kilometres on the clock and is famous for his role in the popular Hollywood film Ghost Rider.

I spotted 52-year-old Billy, as he is affectionately known in the road haulage industry, parked at a rest stop in Townsville.

“This is a very famous truck and played a role in the movie Ghost Riderstarring Nicolas Cage, with parts of the film shot in Melbourne in 2005,” he said.

Billy is an experienced driver, lives in Melton, Victoria and has owned the Kenworth for 20 years.

Although the vehicle already has over three million kilometers on the clock, according to Billy it has a new engine.

“This one has about 100,000 km on the clock,” he said.

Billy had picked up tiles for Cairns in Brisbane and also delivered an excavator to Townsville when he met Big Rigs.

There were many dead insects on the front of his truck. “I came across a lot of them on the way from Brisbane,” he said.

Billy, a fan of the Richmond Tigers in the AFL, said he got the nickname from his beloved father, who is now 95 years old.

“And it stuck,” he said.

Billy added that he finds the Newell Highway difficult to navigate and would like to see more rest areas with restrooms for truck drivers.
