Cyclist killed in Scott County accident

SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) – The Scott County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal crash on Ironworks Road near Grayson Way in Georgetown.

Officials said a female driver struck and killed Jonathan Hensley, 39, of Georgetown, around 2:30 p.m.

The Scott County Coroner was called to the scene, where Hensley was pronounced dead.

Officials with the Scott County Sheriff's Office told WKYT that the driver remained on scene and was cooperating.

“She was obviously very distressed and shaking uncontrollably because she had obviously just been involved in an accident where someone was killed,” said Captain Jeremy Johnson of the Scott County Sheriff's Office.

The accident reconstruction unit was on site to investigate the cause of the accident.

“We will investigate whether she could have seen the bike earlier or later. This will help us reconstruct the accident and determine if it was really an accident or a crime?” said Captain Johnson.

He said he hopes everyone takes an extra second to slow down and pay attention to the road while traveling, because that split second can change lives.

“Be aware of your surroundings, and that includes your bike. Other drivers also need to be aware of what's around them and be aware that anything can go wrong at any time,” said Captain Johnson.
