More on EKU vs. Mississippi State

This will be the first-ever meeting between Mississippi State of the SEC and Eastern Kentucky of the FCS.

The Bulldogs will begin their debut year under Lebby against EKU. It will be his first job as head coach after serving as an assistant and coordinator at Baylor, UCFOle Miss, and his alma mater in Oklahoma.

Mississippi State finished 5-7 in its only season under Zach Arnett in 2023, making him the third head coach in as many years for the program following the unfortunate passing of Mike Leach in late 2022.

Lebby is a respected offensive player and should now return to Starkville for some big scoring.

With those points will hopefully come some more wins, as FanDuel sets their win total for 2024 at just 4.5. It will be a difficult first year, as half of their schedule is in the preseason top 20. That doesn't include any of their next three games after this opener, as they are at State of Arizonaagainst Toledoand opposite Florida.

Eastern Kentucky enters this season after a 5-6 record last fall. This will be their fifth season under Walt Wells after two previous stints as an assistant at Richmond. EKU had a 22-21 record last season after four seasons as head coach.

Mississippi State has a lot to look forward to with Lebby there this fall, including an opening win this weekend as a 25+ point favorite at home against the Colonels.
