New Delhi: The main accused in the rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, Sandra Royreportedly claimed that the victim was already dead when he reached the seminar hall of the building. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which took over the investigation from the Kolkata Police, conducted a lie detector test on Sanjay Roy at the Presidency Jail where he is being held.

During the lie detector test, several false and unconvincing answers of the accused were marked, reported the Times of India. He was Lie detector test after he had proclaimed his innocence in the rape and murder case.

The accused appeared “unsettled and scared” during the test and claimed that the victim was already dead when he discovered her, Times of India reported, citing sources. The report said Roy claimed that he ran away after discovering the victim.

The CBI has sought permission from the court to subject seven people, including Roy and former medical college principal Sandip Ghosh, to lie detector tests. A team of polygraph specialists flown to Kolkata from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in Delhi is conducting the tests.

The test cannot be used as evidence in the proceedings, but the results give the agency direction for further investigation.

On August 9, the half-naked body of a postgraduate intern who was allegedly raped and murdered was found in the seminar room of the government-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, sparking nationwide outrage. The Calcutta High Court on August 13 ordered the transfer of the investigation from the Calcutta Police to the CBI, which began its investigation on August 14.

Volunteer Sanjay Roy was arrested by Kolkata police on August 10 as the main accused in the case. CCTV footage and a Bluetooth device found near the paramedic's body led to the arrest of Roy, who was allegedly seen entering the college's seminar room, where the body was found, at around 4 am.
