MUMBAI: 25-year-old fashion merchant SS Ghatol was intercepted at Mumbai airport on Thursday as she tried to board a flight to Singapore. Police said immigration officials discovered that four pages were missing from her passport.
Ghatol, a first-year student, travelled on a tourist visa to Internship sponsored by her institute in Worli. She had mutilated her passport to conceal from her institute a trip to Thailand that she had taken from February 11 to 14. She had then sought an exemption from the exam on the grounds that she was ill, a police official said.
Deputy Immigration Officer Sujit Patil said Ghatol was afraid of her illusion would come out when the institute asked her to present her passport after she was shortlisted for the internship in Singapore.
Ghatol was accused of fraud and violations of the passport law.
