Lie detector test raises doubts in murder case

What is the story

Sanjay Roy, the prime suspect in the brutal rape and murder of a student doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, has been subjected to a lie detector test.

During the investigation, he said the victim was already dead when he arrived at the seminar room.

This claim contradicts Roy's earlier confessions to the Calcutta police, where he confessed to both rape and murder.

Roy's lie detector test results indicate deception

The Times of India reported that Roy's lie detector test revealed several incorrect and unconvincing answers.

He appeared nervous and anxious during the proceedings and offered several alibis when confronted with evidence by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Despite these inconsistencies, Roy maintained his innocence in court last week and said he had taken a lie detector test to prove his innocence.

Roy's claims of innocence are questioned by the authorities

Notably, both the CBI and the police found significant inconsistencies in his statements.

An official said Hindustan Newspaper that Roy was attempting to mislead investigators and could not provide an explanation for his facial injuries or his presence in the building at the time of the crime.

The victim was found dead in a seminar room. He showed signs of sexual assault and had 25 injuries on his body, including his intimate areas.

Roy's psychoanalytic profile gives cause for concern

Roy's psychoanalytic profile, as published by the CBI, describes him as a “pervert and severely addicted to pornography” with animalistic instincts.

According to his profile, Roy showed no remorse for his actions.

Moreover, the CBI also informed the Supreme Court last week about attempts to cover up the crime, claiming that the local police had tampered with the crime scene before taking over it.

CBI investigates financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College

Separately, the CBI has launched an investigation into alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College.

This new line of investigation was taken up by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up by the Government of West Bengal on the directions of the Calcutta High Court.

The court has directed the CBI to submit a progress report on this investigation within three weeks.
