Bayern Munich's Max Eberl says the warning to Leon Goretzka does not mean he cannot fight his way back into the fans' favour

Midfielder Leon Goretzka did not play in FC Bayern Munich's 3-2 opening victory against VfL Wolfsburg, but he was still a hot topic for sporting director Max Eberl.

Eberl described the situation as best he could.

“We made it clear to some players that it could be difficult so that there are no nasty surprises later,” Eberl told DAZN (recorded by Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg). “He handled it in a highly professional manner, accepted it and performed very, very well in training. That's why he's in the squad today.”

Eberl further said that if Goretzka is not sold, he will be given the chance to regain his place in the team.

“If Leon is here on August 30th, then he's here. It would be naive to send a player to the stands if he's better than those on the pitch,” said Eberl (recorded by Maximilian Koch of the Abendzeitung). “Players deserve to be treated honestly. If players decide to stay, they are 100 percent members here.”
