Officials suspended for special treatment

What is the story

Seven officials of the Parappana Agrahara Central Jail in Bengaluru have been suspended after they were accused of giving special treatment to Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa.

The measure came after a photo and video were circulated online showing the actor enjoying his privileges while in prison.

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara confirmed the suspensions and described them as a “serious security breach”.

Viral photo causes controversy

The controversy was triggered by a photo of Darshan, who is currently in custody in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case.

The picture shows him sitting comfortably on a chair with a cigarette and a cup of coffee, accompanied by three other people.

According to reports, the people seen with Darshan include criminal Wilson Garden Naga, Nagaraj (the actor's manager and co-accused) and Kulla Seena (another inmate).

Public outrage over alleged preferential treatment

The incident sparked widespread criticism, with many expressing displeasure over Darshan's alleged preferential treatment.

Kashinath S. Shivanagowdru, Renukaswamy's father, has demanded a thorough investigation and punishment of those responsible.

“There is a feeling in such things that there should be a CBI investigation,” he said.

Darshan’s pre-trial detention extended

“When Darshan asked for home-cooked food, he was not allowed to do so. We have faith in the police and the judicial system. I am completely surprised how this could happen. This is shocking news for me. I request the government to investigate the case and take action,” the father said, according to the India today.

Recall that a Bengaluru court on August 21 extended the remand of Darshan and the others until Wednesday (August 28).

What is the Renukaswamy murder case?

The actor is accused of murdering 33-year-old rickshaw driver Renukaswamy.

Renukaswamy, reportedly a fan of Darshan, had sent hateful messages to the actor's partner, Pavithra Gowda.

This is said to have prompted the actor to hire a gang to kidnap and murder Renukaswamy.

The rickshaw driver's body was discovered on a flyover on June 9.
