Pakistan: Tragic bus accident on Makran coastal highway leaves 11 dead and 35 injured – World News

Eleven people were killed and 35 injured in an accident on the Makran coastal road on Sunday (25 August). A bus carrying pilgrims was on its way from Iran to Punjab (Pakistan) but overturned near Buzzi Top after the driver lost control of the bus and it fell into a ditch. Naveed Alam, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Lasbela, said a crane was used for rescue as four passengers were trapped in the bus.

The dead and injured were from Lahore and Gujranwala and were taken to the city hospital, according to Hakeem Lassi, Edh in-charge of Lasbela. He further said that the army's rescue unit 1122 and Edhi teams are carrying out rescue operations. Ali Hassan, a bus passenger from Gujranwal, mentioned that the bus was carrying around 60 passengers.

Injured taken to Jam Ghulam Qadir Hospital

District Commissioner (Hub) Rohana Gul Kakar said that five injured passengers were taken to Jam Ghulam Qadir Hospital in Hub for first aid before being transported to Karachi. She further said that one body was taken to Rural Health Centre in Winder.

Mir Ali Hassan Zehri, an adviser to the Balochistan chief minister, said they had contacted the Sindh government and instructed the health ministry to ensure the best possible treatment for the injured. In a statement issued by District Commissioner Hamoodur Rehman, a travel ban was imposed on pilgrims from Gabad in Iran to Gwadar due to security reasons.

The statement released also mentioned the entry ban for pilgrims from Iran and recommended that they refrain from traveling at this time. The measures were taken to improve the travel conditions for pilgrims. Recently, 28 Pakistani pilgrims were killed and 23 others injured when their bus crashed in the Iranian city of Yazd. The bus overturned at the Dehshir-Taftan checkpoint in Yazd and subsequently caught fire.
