Lidl launches “croissant bag” with world-famous designer – all in the name of charity

World-famous high-fashion designer Nikolas Bentel has teamed up with Lidl to create an iconic pastry, the croissant, as a limited edition luxury leather bag.

Lidl and the mastermind behind the viral pasta bag timed the launch just as the trend for unusual, social media-savvy bags was at its peak, from Harrods' crisps bag to Moschino's McDonald's bag.

With 122 croissants sold every minute, Lidl croissants are a favourite among customers. The crescent-shaped leather 'croissant purse' features a gold zip and shopping trolley token and is housed in a soft leather 'baker's bag', combining the trendy roll-top clutch style with a traditional paper bag.

All proceeds will be donated to children’s charities.

The bespoke design features a crescent-shaped leather ‘croissant purse’, complete with gold zip and shopping trolley token, packaged in a soft leather ‘baker’ bag.

Perfectly reflecting the real baked goods while also being a versatile fashion statement piece, the Lidl croissant bag is the perfect blend of absurdity and cult status.

Nikolas Bentel, founder of Nikolas Bentel Studios, said: “I have always believed that design should commemorate the everyday, so working with a brand like Lidl, known for its witty and humorous approach to customer service, for our first UK partnership was a no-brainer. Throughout the creative process, we sought to combine Lidl’s iconic baked goods product with our love of celebrating the everyday – this gave us the opportunity to think deeply and create something truly unique.

He continued: “To make it super dynamic, we made the bag multifunctional, with multiple styling options so the wearer can give it their own personal touch. My team and I have really enjoyed learning what Lidl customers love about their iconic bakery and can't wait for the world to get to know our croissant bag.”

The limited edition will be available to purchase from 3pm on Thursday 29th August for just £50 via www.nikbentel.com.
