Rape and murder case in Kolkata: In the latest development in the case of the 31-year-old medical intern who was brutally raped and murdered at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata on August 9, the main accused has confessed to the crime during a lie detector test, according to sources. The lie detector test of Sanjay Roy was conducted on Sunday after obtaining his consent and a court order. During the lie detector test, Roy narrated his activities on the night of the crime. He admitted to visiting two red light areas in Kolkata but claimed that he did not indulge in any sexual activity. Roy also confessed to harassing a woman on the street, an act which was recorded by a CCTV camera. Moreover, he admitted to video calling his girlfriend and asking her for nude photos.

Calcutta rape and murder case: The sequence of events on the night of the crime, narrated by the main accused Sanjay Roy –

  • August 8: Roy and his friend arrived at RG Kar Hospital to enquire about the friend's brother who was admitted in the hospital.
  • At 11:15 p.m., the main defendant and his friend left the hospital. They then decided to drink alcohol. The two then bought alcohol from a wine shop and drank it on the street.
  • After consuming alcohol, the duo decided to visit Sonagachi, a red-light district of the city.
  • Since they couldn't get anything in Sonagachi, the two decided to go to Chetla, another red-light district in Calcutta.
  • On the way to Chetla, Roy and his friend harassed a girl on the street.
  • Roy's friend got intimate with a woman in Chetla while Roy was video chatting with his girlfriend. During their cozy conversation, Roy respectfully asked his girlfriend if she would send him some risqué pictures, which she readily shared.
  • They both then returned to the hospital, where Roy went to the trauma center on the fourth floor.
  • At 4:03 am, Roy was seen on the security camera moving into the corridor near the seminar hall.
  • Roy entered the seminar hall and strangled the victim.
  • Roy sexually assaulted the victim and then immediately left the scene and went to the house of Anupam Dutta, an officer of the Kolkata Police.
