Kim Soohyun and Cho Boah are the main cast of the Disney crime series “Knock-Off”

Stunning cast for “Knock-Off”

Kim Soo-hyunStar of “My Love from The Star,” “It's Okay to Not Be Okay,” and “Queen of Tears,” will team up with Cho Boah (“The Tale of the Nine-Tails”, “Military Prosecutor Doberman”), in Korean crime series “Imitation”, Disney plans to release the game in 2025.

Delving into the dark world of counterfeit goods, the series follows a man whose life was ruined in the wake of the 1997 Asian financial crisis. Desperate to rebuild what he once had, the man gets drawn into the counterfeit goods trade and quickly rises to the top of the counterfeiting scene. This puts him on a collision course with his ex-girlfriend, who now works for a special police force tasked with combating the trade in counterfeit goods.

Disney is working hard to build its library of Korean content and has released ten shows so far in 2024.

Upcoming films include “The Tyrant,” “Unmasked,” “Seoul Busters,” “Light Shop,” and the crime thriller “Gangnam B-Side”, which will premiere at the Busan Film Festival (see below). Top talent-produced screenplays in 2025 include Tempest, Low Life and Nine Puzzles.

Rich booty, “poor things”


“Poor things”, the 2023 film directed by Yorgos Lanthimosreceived the FIPRESCI Grand Prix after being voted Film of the Year 2024 by the members of FIPRESCI, the International Federation of Film Critics. Poor Things premiered at the Venice Film Festival, where it won the Golden Lion for Best Film. Since then, it has gone on to win two Golden Globes and five BAFTAs, as well as four Oscars.

The FIPRESCI Grand Prix will be awarded on 20 September at the opening gala of the 72nd Festival of San Sebastián and present on the same day.

SPECIAL SELECTION FROM BUSAN

The Busan International Film Festival has planned five films and six television series for the “Korean Cinema Today – Special Premiere” section, which will showcase the latest and most popular contemporary Korean commercial films.

During one, Hur Jin-hoNormal Family premiered last year, and the other four films are all world premieres. They include: “A girl with closed eyes”, a thriller that explores the complex and tense relationship between a criminal and a detective who come back together after the murder of a bestselling author and celebrity Kim Minha (“Pachinko”) and Moon Choi; “Bogota: City of the Lost”, about Korean immigrants in Colombia who become smugglers; the crime drama about two corrupt detectives, “Dirty Money,” which marks the directorial debut of director Kim Minsu (screenplay for “The Merciless”); and “Hear Me: Our Summer,” a remake of the 2009 Taiwanese film “Hear Me.”

The “On Screen” section includes “More than farewell”, a Japanese melodrama by Kasumi Arimura and Sakaguchi Kentaro; “Born for the limelight”, by the Taiwanese actor, writer and director and completes a trilogy that also includes “The Making of an Ordinary Woman”.

The Korean titles are: “Dongjae, the good or the bastard” a spin-off series of the successful and nationally acclaimed drama “Stranger”; “Gangnam B-Side“, a crime action drama revolving around a missing person case; “Hellbound Season 2”, again directing Yeon Sang-ho and written by Choi Gyu-seok; and “Way Back Love,” a coming-of-age fantasy love story for teens in which an ex-boyfriend is now a grim reaper.

Award-winning producer Darren Dale became a member of the Screen Australia Board for three years. He is the managing director of the First Nations-owned production company Blackfella MoviesHis films include “First Australians” (2008), “Total Control” (2019-2024) and “Redfern Now” (2012-2014).
He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Sydney Film Festivalthe Sydney Festival and the National Institute of Dramatic Art and a member of the New South Wales Government's Creative Communities Council. He is also a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The appointment was announced by the Federal Minister for the Arts Tony Burke.
