Police expected to release details of murder-suicide on Monday – NBC New York

The identities of the five people killed in a suspected murder-suicide that rocked a Long Island neighborhood could be released Monday.

On Sunday evening, police vehicles finally left the quiet cul-de-sac in Syosset after spending nearly 10 hours searching for evidence at the Wyoming courthouse.

Nassau County police said five bodies were discovered around 12 p.m. after neighbors heard gunshots.

The police department said police found a man outside the home who had inflicted a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The four other victims were all found inside the home. Sources confirm that all five people are family members.

Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder told Newsday that the weekend deaths appeared to be linked to a subsequent murder-suicide.

“We know that the person on the front lawn shot himself,” Ryder told the outlet.

Neighbors said the 95-year-old woman who lived in the house had recently died. As Newsday first reported, the house was the address of Theresa Martha DeLucia, who died on August 19. The Syosset woman was buried Friday at Calverton National Cemetery.

Wendy Paisner lives across the street and has seen the woman's children in the house in recent days, including one who had traveled from North Carolina.

“I just saw them arrive. They were there to attend my mother's funeral, pay their respects and then sell the house,” she told News 4.

Family members reportedly met on Sunday to discuss the will and a possible sale of the house.

Paisner said DeLucia lived in the home with one of her adult sons, who had mental health issues.

“I think the mother took care of him,” she said. “He really needed support, emotional support.”

Police have scheduled a press conference for Monday at 11 a.m. to provide details of their investigation.
