Missouri motorcyclist dies in Park County crash

CHEYENNE, Wyoming – A 44-year-old motorcyclist from Missouri died Sunday morning after a crash on Highway 120 near Meeteetse.

The accident occurred at 9:35 a.m. on August 25 at mile marker 48.5 on WY 120, about 15 miles from Meeteetse in Park County. According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, the motorcyclist, identified as Willard Sandefer, was riding with two other motorcyclists directly in front of him.

As they approached a merging lane, the two front riders safely overtook another vehicle. Sandefer attempted to catch up, but ran into freshly painted medians. The motorcycle's front tire began to shake, causing him to lose control and veer off the road to the left.

Authorities confirmed that at the time of the accident, the weather conditions were clear, Sandefer was wearing a helmet and the road was dry.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol said speed may have played a role in the accident.
