An Idaho town grapples with a 'woke' approach to crime

The Magic Valley's 14 liberals won't like it, but the people recently arrested in connection with a series of shootings in Twin Falls aren't named Smith or Jones. The arrest reports are factual. And while Anglos still commit the majority of the crimes, it's a fair question whether some of the shootings are linked to Latino gangs. You can bury your head in the sand and take a woke approach, but many of your neighbors are asking questions and looking for answers.

As the British Conservative Party has learned, people can only be manipulated for so long. When they encounter circumstances that directly affect their daily lives, they become angry. In Britain, the government has promised migrationAs the number of victims increased exponentially, they were branded as racists.

Our situation is different, except that we represent a much smaller population. In recent years, city officials have avoided suggestions that buses are dumping hordes of newcomers on our streets. The public wants to know what's going on, and many people in government seem uncomfortable when the subject is brought up. But when you're dodging bullets while buying a sandwich at Chick-fil-A, you have no interest in hearing elected officials spout politically correct blather.

I can probably survive being labeled a fanatic. Bullets? I'm not so sure.

I'm told the city police are developing new plans to combat loitering on some streets, but the police can't be everywhere. I'm guessing some of you have ideas on how to restore some calm. I assume your city council members are looking for public input.

The British Conservative Party may never recover from this. The party of Disraeli, Churchill and Thatcher was destroyed because it neglected its voters for too long. All governments, big and small, can learn a lesson from this history.
