Monster Energy's UNLEASHED podcast welcomes world-renowned tattoo artist Luke Wessman in a special live episode from the paint shop at the Bike Shed in Downtown LA

The podcast episode was originally streamed live on the Twitch platform on July 31 in a mobile studio in the paint shop of the Bike Shed Motorcycle Company, a warehouse, restaurant and retail space in DTLA. Today, the one-hour episode featuring the famous tattoo artist is available to audiences worldwide.

Born on a hippie farm in Tennessee Wessman grew up on the streets of Southern California and is considered one of the most influential “Ink Masters” in the world. The artist has tattooed prominent athletes, musicians and actors, and has lent his design skills to the world's biggest brands. Wessman has been featured in magazines such as GQ, Inked Mag, Complex and Freshly Inked, as well as numerous podcasts and television shows. The episode was recorded at The Bike Shed's tattoo studio, The Paint Shop. Lukas Wessmann talks about his craft. When asked about his very first “piece of ink” on his body, Wessman replied, “My first tattoo was my name on my back. I was 16. It was at my friend's apartment. I had to go to Kinko's with a book to make copies of the letters I wanted. I made them the right size, gave them to the artist, and he did the whole thing. And before I knew it, I was tattooed. And from then on, I never stopped and kept getting more.”

In the podcast, the tattoo icon also stressed the importance of taking good care of the skin art: “All I can do is do the tattoo. Once it's gone, I have no control over it.” Still, Wessman strongly advises against swimming after getting a tattoo, avoiding direct sunlight, and not itching and scratching it. He also noted that too much of the wrong ointment can affect healing.

Wessman said of his connection to the action sports world: “Surfing was my big thing. I surfed everywhere California and got sponsored. I rode a longboard, but like a shortboard because I'm a big guy.”

As an ambassador for Monster Energy, Wessman regularly attends action sports events to tattoo fans: “The line is always the longest. Because people want something. They want to honor their buddies and the event. And I do a good job,” Wessman said at UNLEASHED.
