All four suspects in Hyatt murder case released from prison on bail

MILWAUKEE – All four suspects in the Hyatt murder case are now free on bail and no longer in the Milwaukee County Jail, according to the In Custody Locator and Milwaukee County CCAP.

Suspects Brandon LaDaniel Turner, Devin Johnson-Carter, Herbert Williamson and Todd Alan Erickson have all posted bail.

Three of them had their bail reduced to $5,000. Williamson originally had bail set at $15,000, Turner at $30,000 and Erickson at $50,000.

Johnson-Carson had already been released from prison since Monday, August 12, when he posted his $5,000 bail.

Each is charged with aiding and abetting murder in connection with the death of D'Vontaye Mitchell outside the Hyatt hotel in downtown Milwaukee on June 30. All four pleaded not guilty during arraignment last Thursday.

According to a criminal complaint, the four hotel employees dragged Mitchell out of the Hyatt hotel after he entered a women's restroom and held him on his stomach for eight or nine minutes.

A staff member told investigators that Mitchell was having trouble breathing and repeatedly begged for help, the complaint states.

The four workers told investigators that Mitchell was strong and tried to bite Erickson, but they did not intentionally harm him.

Aimbridge Hospitality, the company that operates the hotel, laid off the four employees in July.

Nationally known civil rights attorney Ben Crump is representing Mitchell's family in the case.
