The man who died in a shooting in Valley View was “the attacker,” according to police

On Monday, the Town of Valley View announced that an investigation into a road rage shooting that occurred last week that left one man dead has determined that the person killed was the suspected assailant in the two-vehicle incident.

“Initial findings indicate that the deceased man was the aggressor in the incident. Based on the information currently available, the Cuyahoga County District Attorney's Office has recommended that no charges be filed at this time,” the Valley View Police Department said in a statement.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and the results will be presented to the Cuyahoga County District Attorney's Office Self-Defense Committee for further review.

The filming

It happened just before 10 a.m. on August 22 at Brecksville and Granger streets in Valley View. Authorities said they received numerous calls about a man who had been shot and was lying in the street next to a gray pickup truck.

Valley View Police Chief David Niro said officers went to the overpass and found that 41-year-old Christopher Andexler had been shot.

Andexler was taken to a hospital by emergency services, but succumbed to his injuries there, police said.

Witnesses reported that a white minivan fled the scene but was found shortly afterward in Brooklyn Heights when police received a call about the vehicle's location, police said.

According to authorities, the van caught fire due to a mechanical failure and rolled down a steep driveway into a wooded area.

Brooklyn Heights officers arrested a man and a woman, both 28, at the scene and seized a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting, police said.
