Court date set for Miller family over Virginia City incident

The Miller family has been scheduled for a preliminary hearing after they were arrested in connection with an altercation that was widely condemned as racist.

The first court date has been set for a family involved in an incident in Virginia City that went viral on TikTok over allegations of racism.

A pretrial hearing is scheduled for November 14 for Gary Miller, his wife Janis Miller and his daughter Tiffany Miller, the Storey County District Attorney's Office confirmed to the Reno Gazette Journal.

The hearing will take place at the court in Virginia City.

The three members of the Miller family were arrested on August 7 in connection with an incident that occurred during the Hot August Nights classic car kickoff event in Virginia City.

The incident, which occurred on August 2, involved an altercation with a black man seeking support for a voter petition to limit attorney fees in Nevada. Election official Ricky Johnson posted a video of the confrontation on TikTok that was viewed more than a million times before being deleted a few days later.

The incident was widely condemned by Governor Joe Lombardo, Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford, and Virginia City and Hot August Nights, who condemned the incident as a response to confronting racism.

Gary Miller was charged with disturbing the public peace, which is a serious misdemeanor. Janis Miller was charged with assault, while Tiffany Miller was charged with obstructing and delaying a peace officer – both misdemeanors.
