Dunn Co. officer and local photographer arrested on sexual assault and child abuse charges – The Dickinson Press

DUNN COUNTY, N.D. — The Dunn County highway superintendent and his wife, a well-known local photographer, were arrested on charges of sexual assault and child abuse, according to a bail report from the Southwest Multi-County Correction Center.

The arrests were made Friday by the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) with assistance from the Dunn County Sheriff's Department.

David Lym, a Dunn County officer, was charged with sexual assault, which involves a sexual act under duress. Under North Dakota law (NDCC 12.1-20-03), this charge applies to anyone who forces or compels another person to perform a sexual act under duress or under threat of immediate serious harm.

Karolina Lym, a well-known professional photographer in southwestern North Dakota, is charged with child abuse causing psychological injury, a non-violent family offense. Under North Dakota law (NDCC 14-09-22), this charge involves intentionally causing or permitting psychological or physical injury to a child. The offense is classified as a Class C felony, or a Class B felony if the victim is under the age of six.

Karolina Lym is known in the community for her work in newborn, maternity, and portrait photography, as well as professional portraits of local celebrities. She is also an active member of several organizations such as the Dickinson Area Chamber, City of Dickinson Christmas Committee, Bakken BBQ, Develop Dickinson Committee, Dickinson Public Schools Foundation, Make-A-Wish, and BIO Girls.

At the time of this report, no bail has been set for either individual. Both are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
