Driver charged after fatal crash in Adams

ADAMS, Tenn. (WSMV) – A man was arrested after he crashed his pickup truck into a tree in Adams Sunday night, causing the death of his passenger.

Smokey Barn News reported that the accident occurred just before 7:30 p.m. on Hugh Gill Road near Davidson Road.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) reported to Smokey Barn that 38-year-old John Roark was driving east on Hugh Gill Road with 25-year-old Makayla Johnson in his GMC pickup truck when he failed to properly negotiate a curve. The THP report said the truck then left the road and struck a tree, according to Smokey Barn.

Roark suffered minor injuries in the accident, but his passenger Johnson was pronounced dead, according to the report.

Roark was taken into custody and arrested early Monday morning on charges of drunken driving and vehicular manslaughter.
