Conor McGregor pleads for freedom in cryptic message

Conor McGregor longs for freedom.

It's been more than three years since we last saw “Mystic Mac” in the Octagon. His dry spell was set to end on June 29 in Las Vegas, but McGregor ultimately canceled his UFC 303 appearance with Michael Chandler due to, of all things, a broken pinky toe.

Since then, McGregor has been pushing for a December date, but more than that, it seems as if McGregor wants to free himself from the shackles of his UFC contract.

Recently, the former two-division titleholder posted a four-word post on social media that left everyone speculating about its meaning.

“When I’m free,” McGregor wrote on X.

McGregor also posted a training clip on Instagram with the hashtag #FreeTheMac.

Conor McGregor's comments come days after speculation about the headliner at UFC 310

Interestingly, McGregor's comments come just days after newly crowned welterweight champion Belal Muhammad announced that his first title defense could take place in December at UFC 310, the date McGregor was keen to have for his postponed fight with Chandler.

It's possible that Muhammad could face Shavkat Rakhmonov or Kamaru Usman — the two fighters are clear favorites to win the first fight — as the co-main event of a McGregor vs. Chandler headliner, but that hasn't happened since 2016, when Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz was the main event of UFC 196.

The co-main event of the evening was Miesha Tate's victory over Holly Holm to win the women's bantamweight title.
