Two defendants pleaded guilty on August 26 to assault and a weapons offense in connection with a shooting near Lexington Market in Baltimore City last December and were each sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Deontrey McDaniel, 28, and Deasia Wilson, 27, were initially charged with attempted murder for the incident on Dec. 9, 2023. According to the indictment, McDaniel was driving a moped when Wilson, who was sitting behind him, fired several shots at a crowded bus stop on West Lexington Street.

The duo appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey M. Geller on Monday, where they both pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and use of a firearm during a felony or crime of violence. Each defendant was sentenced to 40 years in prison, with all but 15 years suspended, the first five years non-parole and five years supervised probation. Under the terms of the plea agreement, the defendants must register as firearm offenders.

McDaniel also pleaded guilty to weapons possession in a separate case and was sentenced to a concurrent five-year prison term.

The prosecutor told Judge Geller that Baltimore Police officers were called to Lexington Market after three gunshots were reported near the 200 block of North Eutaw Street. The victim was shot on the right side of his head but survived his injuries.

McDaniel and Wilson were both represented by defense attorney Karyn Meriwether during Monday's hearing. Meriwether represented McDaniel's attorney, Natalie Finegar, who was involved in another case.
