Mariah Carey's mother and sister both died tragically on the same day

As the news agency reports, the 55-year-old singer confirmed this in an exclusive statement. It began with the words: “I am heartbroken to have lost my mother this past weekend. Unfortunately, in a tragic turn of events, my sister also lost her life on the same day.”

She continued, “It read, 'I am heartbroken to have lost my mother this past weekend. Unfortunately, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life the same day.'” The singer went on to thank her fans and everyone who sent their condolences, saying, “I appreciate everyone's love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”

The news site reported that no further details are currently known, especially the cause of death of Patricia and Alison.

Before her death, Mariah's mother Patricia Carey did not have a smooth relationship with her legendary daughter. The two had quite a complicated relationship. In her 2020 memoir 'The meaning of Mariah CareyThe singer described her relationship with her mother as “a prickly strand of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration and disappointment.”

She also said, “Like many aspects of my life, my journey with my mother has been full of contradictions and competing realities. It was never just black and white – it was a whole rainbow of emotions.” She added, “A complicated love connects my heart to my mother's.”

Despite their difficult relationship, Mariah Carey and her mother maintained their bond and she even dedicated part of her memoirs to Patricia, admitting that her mother raised her in the best possible way and that she would always love her.

Her mother was previously married to Alfred Roy Careyan opera singer and singing teacher trained at the Juilliard School. They had three children together: Alison, Mariah and a son named Morgan CareyThe couple divorced when Mariah was 3 years old.

Unfortunately, Mariah Carey did not have a close relationship with her mother Patricia Carey, and her relationship with her sister Alison Carey was not that close either. The two sisters were estranged for a while and Alison even sued Mariah at one point over abuse allegations, which were mentioned in her memoir. In it, she also said that at the time of writing, it was “emotionally and physically safer for me to have no contact” with her or Morgan.
