YouTuber Crip Mac sentenced to prison after felony conviction

A South Los Angeles rapper whose YouTube videos have been viewed millions of times was sentenced to nearly three years in prison Monday after pleading guilty to a charge in federal court.

Trevor Hurd, 31, known by his stage name Crip Mac, was sentenced to two years and nine months in a federal prison, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Hurd pleaded guilty to criminal possession of ammunition in downtown Los Angeles in April.

He was arrested by U.S. Marshals in state court in December, shortly after a Los Angeles County judge agreed to drop the gun charge so federal prosecutors could take over the case, court records show.

The indictment states that a pistol without a serial number – commonly known as a “ghost gun” – and ten rounds of ammunition were found on Hurd in September.

According to the document, Hurd has been arrested five times for serious crimes since 2014 and convicted at least once. The charges include two arrests for illegal possession of a firearm, attempted second-degree armed robbery, grand larceny and transportation of a controlled substance, the indictment states.
