Active shooter investigation leads to closure of Chestnut St. near Garden of the Gods

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has closed Chestnut St. between Darby and Hoorne St. due to a shooting. Chestnut is located near Garden of the Gods Rd.

According to CSPD, a shooting resulted in a car crashing into a tree in front of a home. When emergency responders arrived, they found an adult dead with at least one gunshot wound and a black pickup truck crashed into a tree.

The CSPD homicide squad responds.

There is currently no suspect in custody, but Colorado Springs Police believe the suspect is an adult male. They also say the suspect vehicle is a silver four-door sedan.

Neighbors who live in the area said they heard five to 10 gunshots and then a loud bang.

“I'm more cautious now and more aware of my neighborhood. I feel like this neighborhood has changed. I've lived here for 14 years and it's changed quite a bit,” said Kelly Christiansen, a neighbor.

Other neighbors who did not want to appear on camera said they saw two adults running down the street after the shooting, telling them to call the police.

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with additional information is asked to immediately call Colorado Springs' non-emergency line at 719-444-7000.
