West Bank prison guard's murderer to be charged – report – Crime in Israel

Hamas activist Ibrahim Mansor is expected to be indicted by a military prosecutor on Tuesday for the murder of prison guard Yohai Avni in his home in the Mateh Binyamin regional council. Ynet was reported on Monday.

Mansor said he did not plan Avni's murder before carrying it out, but he was caught lying about this during a lie detector test the day before the arraignment. Ynet In his version of the investigation, he claimed that he got into trouble after breaking into a house and that he had not planned the murder that happened last month. The investigation also shows that Mansur was walking around the city armed with a knife shortly before the murder.

The Institute of Legal Medicine stated that Avni was stabbed 66 times in all parts of his body. His family is threatening to appeal to the Supreme Court if his murder is not classified as a terrorist attack, but the Ynet report says terrorism will not be among the charges against Mansor.

The bereaved families stressed the importance of the indictment being filed, adding that any changes or examinations afterward would mean additional psychological and legal torture for them, Ynet.

Defendant was caught lying

“The results of the investigation refute the murderer's criminal version and show that he stabbed the deceased Yohai Avni no less than 66 times all over his body,” Ynet quoted lawyer Rochberger as saying. “This number is inconsistent with his claim that his attempt was merely to thwart any resistance to his break-in and escape from the crime scene.”

“The shocking number of stab wounds and the fact that the brutal stab wounds are scattered all over the dead man's body clearly point to an unusually serious hate crime, consistent with the fact that the victim was a Jew serving in the Israeli prison service when his uniform was visible in the apartment.”

Avni's family also requested a meeting with the Palestinian Authority to obtain investigative materials to appeal the decision not to attribute terrorism as a motive for the murder.
