Man allegedly used counterfeit money at gas station

JONESBORO, Arkansas (KAIT) – Police have arrested a Jonesboro man accused of spending movie money at a gas station.

Craighead County District Court Judge David Boling found on Monday, August 26, that there was sufficient probable cause to charge 37-year-old Juan Terrell Walton with first-degree forgery.

According to the affidavit, Jonesboro police officers were called to Kum n' Go at the intersection of Southwest Drive and Culberhouse Street at 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, because counterfeit money had been circulated on Sunday, August 18.

At around 2:50 p.m. that day, according to the victim, Walton came into the store and paid $170 to load money onto a Vanilla debit card.

“[The] The suspect used two $50 bills to complete the transaction and left the store,” police said. “The two $50 bills were later examined and found to be counterfeit movie theater money.”

After reviewing the security measures, the police said that Walton had apparently managed to distract the officer so that he did not examine the notes more closely.

Walton was arrested on Friday, August 23, the same day a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Walton is being held at the Craighead County Detention Center on $10,000 cash or surety bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for Friday, September 27.
