Police arrest drug dealer in unregistered Cadillac

On Saturday, August 17, at approximately 12:30 a.m., a patrol officer from SP-Middleborough Barracks was on patrol on Route 24 northbound in Bridgewater. The patrol officer observed a black Cadillac sedan that had a revoked registration due to lack of insurance.

The officer turned on the blue lights and stopped the Cadillac. As it slowly came to a stop, the officer could see a passenger in the back seat walk around the vehicle and disappear from view. The officer approached the vehicle and informed the driver of the reason for the stop. All three occupants of the vehicle were not wearing seat belts.

The officer removed the backseat passenger from the vehicle and searched her. It was discovered that the backseat passenger had hidden nearly 70 grams of crack and cocaine in her sweatshirt. The passenger, DARIA CANANZEY, 28, of New Bedford, was arrested and taken to Middleborough Barracks.

Since the vehicle was neither registered nor insured, it was towed from the scene of the accident and the driver and passenger were removed from the highway.

DARIA CANANZEY was registered according to departmental policies, fingerprinted and photographed.

CANANZEY was to be charged in Brockton District Court with the following charges:

1. Cocaine trafficking.
