Tragic collision claims lives in Rockford: Investigations ongoing

Late Sunday evening, a tragic collision occurred at an intersection in southeast Rockford that left one person dead.

According to the press release, the Winnebago County Coroner's Office responded to a tragic accident that occurred on Sunday (8/25) at approximately 11:55 p.m. at the corner of Holland Street and Lincoln Avenue.

Simon was driving a vehicle that collided with another at the busy Rockford intersection. Emergency personnel from the Rockford Police Department and the Rockford Fire Department quickly arrived on the scene.

Despite their immediate intervention and subsequent transport of Simon to a local hospital, his injuries proved fatal due to their severity. Simon was pronounced dead at 12:58 am on Monday (26 August).

An autopsy is scheduled for August 27, 2024 to determine the exact cause of death.

Both the Winnebago County Coroner's Office and the Rockford Police Department are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the accident, the press release said.

While the investigation continues, authorities are asking anyone with information about the accident to come forward.
