Man from Norwich is said to have fired a gun near a residential building

NORWICH, Connecticut (WFSB) – A shooting was reported on Stonington Road in Norwich on Monday.

At around 7 p.m., several callers to 911 reported an incident near a residential building.

Norwich Police officers arrived at the scene and heard approximately six gunshots.

A protection warning has been sent to residents of the property and the surrounding area.

The surrounding authorities were also asked for mutual aid to support the Norwich police.

Connecticut State Police, Montville Police, Ledyard Police and Groton Town Police responded to the scene.

Evidence of a shooting was found outside in the rear of the building, where officers encountered an intoxicated man who was eventually identified as the shooter.

Officers attempted to negotiate a peaceful surrender with a man identified as Brian Burgess, 33.

He was taken into custody without further incident.

No officers or persons were injured in this incident and there appears to be no further danger to the public.

Burgess was held on $150,000 bail pending his arraignment in Norwich Superior Court GA-21 on August 27, 2024.
