Minden City man pleads guilty to drug charges

A Minden City man faces several years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple drug charges on Monday.

Cody Jack Miller, 27, pleaded guilty Monday morning in a Huron County 52nd District Court jail to one count each of possession of cocaine with intent to resell (habitual offender, third summons), possession of cocaine (habitual offender, third summons) and possession of contraband.

As part of an agreement with the prosecutor, two other charges were dropped. The prosecutor agreed not to seek any further penalties. In addition, Miller must pay full restitution if necessary.

Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Sell – Habitual Offender, Third Reminder is punishable by up to 40 years in prison and/or a $25,000 fine. Possession of Cocaine – Habitual Offender, Third Reminder is punishable by up to eight years in prison and/or a $25,000 fine. and Possession of Contraband in Prison, Habitual Offender – Third Reminder is punishable by a possible penalty of up to 10 years in prison and/or a $1,000 fine.

Judge Gerald M. Prill scheduled sentencing for Monday, October 28, at 9:00 a.m. Bail was set at $200,000 cash or surety.

According to an April press release from Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson, Miller was arrested on April 12 during a traffic stop on North Port Crescent Street near Irwin Street in Bad Axe.

Miller and another person were driving a 2016 Lincoln when it was stopped for a traffic violation, according to the news release. Miller was found to be in possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

Officers seized the vehicle, cash and cell phones, took Miller into custody and transported him to the Huron County Jail. When Miller was searched by jail officers, they found what was later determined to be fentanyl on him.
