The famous Grimes album that mysteriously made some people want to shave their heads

The author has a close relationship with this particular topic as he himself is a victim of it.

Electronic pop artist Grimes released the highly acclaimed album Art Angel in 2015. It was their fourth studio album and a notable departure from the sound of their 2013 cult classic Visions.

It took years for Grimes to release the follow-up after she inexplicably destroyed the material from the first round of sessions. However, “Realiti” is an earlier recording that survived and made it onto the album. She began recording new material in 2014 and released the record in 2015.

The finished product was a work of excellence, with many describing it as “more accessible” than their previous works without compromising the experimental nature and creativity of the album. It featured artists such as Aristophanes and Janelle Monáe. The tracks “Kill V. Maim” and “Flesh Without Blood” are just a few of the memorable tracks.

Overall it's a great album. Art Angel Supposedly (and we would like to make it clear that this is pure speculation) it is responsible for a large number of people shaving their heads after listening to the music.

Did Grimes' album “Art Angels” make people shave their heads?

In an August 2024 Reddit thread, a user compiled an album of screenshots showing a large number of Grimes fans admitting that they shaved their heads almost immediately after listening to the album.

One user even said that while listening to the album, the urge to shave his head arose, but disappeared almost immediately when he stopped listening to it.

“In 2015 I heard Art Angels […] and I suddenly felt the urge to shave my head completely,” the user said. “[…] I had never felt the need to shave my head before or since, and now I've had at least three or four people say the same thing. It totally freaked me out.”

Some users in this Reddit thread believe that Grimes used subliminal messages to get her listeners to shave their heads. Some users linked Grimes to McGill University, which was rumored to be involved with MKUltra. Grimes' father, Maurice Boucher, also happens to be a former banker who worked in biotechnology.

Grimes also “predicted” the pandemic in a music video (“Violence,” above) in which she and her dancers wear masks and perform six feet apart, months before the global pandemic began. And of course, Grimes has since been linked to Elon Musk.

Could any of these factors play a role in Art Angel supposedly did to listeners? Did Grimes use subliminal messages to get an entire audience of listeners to cut off their locks? Is there something supernatural about the album? Was it just mass hysteria?

Who knows?

However, this writer shaved his head in 2015 just weeks after listening to the song, seemingly for no other reason than that the cool kids on Tumblr were doing it. There might be something to this theory; or it might all just be a weird coincidence and a subconscious need to “fit in.”
