Young woman killed by boat propeller near Harvey Cedars, New Jersey

HARVEY CEDARS, NJ (CBS) – A young woman died over the weekend when she was struck by a boat propeller off Long Beach Island, New Jersey State Police said Monday.

According to authorities, Zeina Mahafzah, 18, of Wayne, New Jersey, was on a raft being towed by a boat on Sunday, August 25, when she was struck by the boat's propeller while trying to get back on the boat.

New Jersey State Police said she suffered “fatal injuries” as a result of the impact, which occurred near Sunset Park in Harvey Cedars Borough.

On Monday, the Harvey Cedars Police Department said on Facebook that it was working with the New Jersey State Police in the investigation and asked people to keep the family and community in their thoughts and prayers.

The fatal incident remains under investigation, according to New Jersey State Police.
