Kevin Harlan lifts the curtain on his famous calls

1. Kevin Harlan has made many memorable calls over the years, but can he remember them from a short clip?

These are the final Traina Thoughts until next week when the NFL FINALLY returns and the Ravens and Chiefs open the season on Thursday night.

So I wanted to share something NFL related with you, and this clip is perfect.

The return of the NFL means the return of CBS' Harlan, his legendary voice and his great commentary.

Harlan recently played clips of some of his most memorable calls to see if he could recall the situation. The experiment was not only a fun trip down memory lane, but also an insightful look into how a live commentator's brain works.

Plus, it's four minutes of Harlan freaking out. What more could you ask for to get ready for the start of football season?

2. No one in the history of professional sports was more famous for his disdain for the media than Bill Belichick. I'm not saying Belichick hated the media, although he probably did. I'm just saying Belichick wished the media didn't exist.

Amazingly, the future Hall of Fame coach just added a FIFTH media job to his 2024 season.

Belichick will be on air every Monday night with Jim Gray and SiriusXM’s Let's goPeter King and Maxx Crosby are also new to the show. Tom Brady is out now that he has the small broadcast job at Fox on Sundays.

Belichick's other media jobs: a weekly guest appearance on the Pat McAfee Show; appears in the first quarter of every 10 ManningCast Episodes; Panelists at CWs Insights into the NFL; and his own weekly show on Underdog Fantasy.

3. Jason and Travis Kelce have just signed a three-year, $100 million contract for their New heights Podcasts.

While this comes with some pretty big built-in benefits, in a world where there are now a billion podcasts, this is a pretty impressive feat.

And not to brag – actually just to brag – in late 2022, before the Kelce brothers show took off and before the podcast got the Taylor Swift boost, I called New heights the podcast of the year. I was so ahead of my time.

4. Speaking of Jason Kelce, it's safe to assume that ESPN will push him hard this season. Monday evening countdownKelce, who replaces Robert Griffin III on the show, stars in the network's new commercial (also featuring Scott Van Pelt and Marcus Spears) for the Monday Night Football audition show.

5. RGIII has finally spoken publicly about his firing from ESPN. He told Rich Eisen he was “surprised” that ESPN fired him, and he had already been assigned a college football team to broadcast games this season.

6. The latest episode of SI Media with Jimmy Traina includes a conversation with ESPN College Game Day Panelists and Football on Thursday evening Analyst Kirk Herbstreit.

Herbstreit talks about how he's adjusting to the rigors of playing college football on Saturdays and NFL on Thursdays, what his schedule looks like during the season and whether he can imagine continuing to do both jobs.

Other topics discussed with Herbstreit include what it is like working with Al Michales at Amazon Prime and the backlash Michaels received last season, which led Pat McAfee to College Game Day and how McAfee made Herbstreit reconsider staying with the show, the massive changes in the college football landscape and how the expanded playoffs will impact the regular season.

Herbstreit also addresses Ryan Leaf's recent attack against him and whether ESPN has ever confronted Herbstreit about tweets or podcast appearances.

Following Herbstreit, Sal Licata of WFAN Radio and SNY TV in New York joins us for our weekly segment “Traina Thoughts.” This week’s topics are a big change to the NFL Sunday Ticket, NFL betting, a new Sopranos Documentary series and much more.
