Two Delta Airlines employees are killed and another is injured in an incident at Atlanta Airport

An incident at Atlanta airport ended fatally on Tuesday morning.

According to reports, a tire burst, killing two people and seriously injuring a third person.

The fatal incident occurred in the Delta Airlines maintenance area at Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Delta Airlines confirmed the deaths in a statement provided to WSB.

It said: “The Delta family is deeply saddened by the loss of two team members and the injury of another following an incident this morning at the Atlanta Technical Operations Maintenance facility (TOC 3). We have pledged our full support to family members and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time. The Delta family is grateful for the quick action of the first responders and medical teams on site. We are now working with local authorities and conducting a full investigation to determine what happened.

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens said teams were on site.

“I extend my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased Delta employees. My thoughts are also with those injured and I hope for their speedy and full recovery. AFRD, APD and HJAIA teams are on site and working diligently to manage the situation,” Dickens wrote.

According to flight information, the tire belonged to a Boeing 757 that was flying from Las Vegas to Atlanta.

Local media reported that the incident occurred when the tire was removed

The cause of the explosion is currently unknown.
