Mount Vernon man charged with two counts of aggravated murder

MOUNT VERNON – A Mount Vernon man was charged Monday with two counts of aggravated murder in connection with a double homicide that occurred at a South Gay Street residence.

Cameron Ray Moore, 23, was arrested by detectives from the Mount Vernon Police Department on August 15.

The indictment also states that Moore committed aggravated burglary during the murders.

On August 14 at approximately 10:02 p.m., Mount Vernon Police responded to an apartment building at 105 South Gay St. to conduct a welfare check.

When officers entered the apartment, they found two adult victims – a man and a woman.

The press release stated that both people were dead and that no one else was in the house. The building was secured as a crime scene.

Under Ohio's Marsy's Law, the names of victims will continue to be kept secret until family consent is obtained or other legal proceedings make them public.

Arson investigations are currently underway in the same complex, “The Terrace,” after a fire broke out in the stairwell between the second and third floors on July 21.
